At our Annual General Meeting on October 1, 2018, the PCDA has decided to sell the Menno Simons Centre (MSC) by the middle of next year in order to pay off our debt on the Bernice Gerard Ministry House (a.k.a. the G House). If you know of an organization that may be interested in purchasing the MSC, they can contact our real estate agent at CBRE about our listing of 4000 West 11th Avenue for sale.
We purchased 2026 Wesbrook Mall earlier this year to use as the new site of a “Menno House” (a.k.a. Menno Hall) student residence which we plan to start building in the University Endowment Lands (UEL) at the gateway of UBC near the corner of University Boulevard once we get the necessary permits in the next couple of years.

We are now accepting applications for Summer (May 2018-August 2018) and Fall/Winter (Sept. 2018 – April 2019). Watch our 5-minute introductory video about the Menno Simons Centre, featuring interviews with the Residence Coordinators as well as former residents. You’ll also hear from a Residence Assistant (RA) about what makes our student residence near UBC so special as an intentional Christian community.
June 2018 Update: We still have some room available at Menno for the month of August. We also have rooms available for male applicants at our 2nd site – the G House @ UBC! If you want to apply for the G House specifically, contact us and we will send you the G House application form.
Join us on Saturday, January 20th for a talk by Gil Dueck (Academic Dean of Columbia Bible College) followed by panel & group discussions to explore a variety of topics related to Christian ministry with emerging adults.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in learning about the nature and realities of emerging adults (typically defined as ages 18-25), as well as effective ways of ministering to emerging adults. Anyone interested in discussion and brainstorming specifically related to our new Menno House project on the UBC campus is encouraged to stay for the afternoon session.

Dr. JULIANNE E. FUNK, Ph.D. (University of Zurich) on “Sowing Trust in Minefields: Faith-based peace & reconciliation in Bosnia & Herzegovina”
Alternative religious responses to ethnic conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina: Faith-based peace and reconciliation Religion is often accused of intolerance towards other religions and, consequently, religious diversity in a society is assumed to be a cause for crisis, instability, and even armed violence. Yet religious faith also serves as a basis of shared values and a motivator for reconciliation and mutual understanding for many believers. Using examples from post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina, Julianne Funk (University of Zurich), will explore this dynamic according to her qualitative empirical research and a set of faith-based peace-building methods. Given current public opinion about Islam, this research is notable in its emphasis on Muslim peacemakers in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Julianne Funk is a peace scholar-practitioner specializing on Bosnia and Herzegovina. She divides her time between teaching at the University of Zurich (in political science and religious studies) and working for local NGOs in the former Yugoslavia. Currently she is coordinating the project “Trauma, Memory and Healing in the Balkans and Beyond” for TPO Foundation in Sarajevo. Julianne received her PhD and MA (social sciences, peace and con?ict studies) from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, and her BA (theology) from Wheaton College in the US. Her recent research and publications include the themes of lived religion, Bosnian Islam, suživot (coexistence), trauma and healing.

On Tuesday, July 12, 2016, you are invited to a talk entitled Neo-Anabaptism is Dead; Long Live Neo-Anabaptism given by Dr. Paul Martens (TH.M, Regent; PhD Notre Dame), Associate Professor of Religion (Ethics) at Baylor University. Paul, a former MSC Residence Coordinator with his wife Candace has co-edited several collections of John Howard Yoder’s writings and published The Heterodox Yoder (2012).
Everyone is invited to a potluck dinner at the Menno Simons Centre (4000 West 11th Ave, Vancouver, BC) on Tues. July 12th at 6:00 pm, followed by Paul’s talk at 7:30 pm with refreshments to follow.
